DK DPS Specs I've tried

Leveling - started off as Blood but changed to Frost leveling (yes, you heard me, I leveled as frost)

pre-3.1 raiding:

a) Unholy 17/0/54 - The old SS glyph made this spec really fun and engaging to play, as you need to keep an eye on whether your SSs would refresh the diseases or not - and the priority system that evolved from this behavior is very versatile and contributed to some pretty nice meter readings.

b) Unholy 0/10/61 - Slightly more DPS than the above spec due to Black Ice, but lack of Subversion made this spec undesirable.

3.1 raiding:

a) Unholy 12/0/59 - Mostly the same as 17/0/54 but with Improved Unholy Presence, which was huge for moving fights that were common in Ulduar.

b) Unholy DW 0/13/58 - Competitive DPS but the lack of FU strikes didn't really suit my play style.

3.2 raiding:

a) DW Frost 3/51/17 - My 2nd favorite spec - huge crits and decent AoE with Deathchill + Howling Blast. Also, dual-wielding tankards was awesome. A very fun and engaging spec that requires a bit of attention on procs and rolling diseases.

b) Blood 51/0/20 - My favorite spec for single target DPS. Solid sustained DPS with great burst DPS through Hysteria+DRW. 30k crits on Twin Valkyrs are sexy.

3.3 raiding:

a) Blood 51/0/20 - same as above, except GoDis no longer rolls the buffed diseases. Still waiting for numbers from EJ to show if GoDD is better.

b) Unholy 17/0/54 - Unholy is back to its pre 3.1 root after some massive changes, and now SS hits like a ton of trucks due to double-dipping in crit and the new physical+shadow mechanic. I was able to hit 5.2k in the wrong presence on a target dummy with diseases falling off at least 3 times in a span of 2 Horns. This should be good once I reacquaint myself with the spec and its priorities. Also, haste is out and crit is in for this spec. But SS might be "tuned" again in the next few minor patches due to it being a little overpowered at the moment.

3.3 First Impressions

New LFG Tool: AWESOME. Takes less than 5 minutes if you queue up for random heroics; a little longer if you are in queue for a specific dungeon. If someone quits during the run, the tool finds a replacement in less than a minute or so.

Triumphs from Heroics: pretty badass. 4 more badges for BiS 245 ring. T10s look good but ridiculously out of reach at the moment - probably will get the sigil for Unholy spec (which is hitting like a ton of trucks in PvE) first.

Unholy vs Blood: both are capable of hitting 5-6k on target dummies (which obviously is not the best way to measure dps, but I didn't raid last night so I have no boss data there)

New 5-mans: Forge of Souls is a pushover. Pit of Saron is a little harder - didn't get to finish because my PuG tank really sucked and I rage quit after paying 80g for repairing.

DK gemming and socket bonuses

some quick calculations for reference:

bold cardinal x2 - 40str = 115.6 with no socket bonus

bold cardinal + inscribed ametrine - 30str+10crit = 102.3
socket bonus +6str = 17.34
102.3 + 17.34 = 119.64

but iff the socket bonus is +6 or more.

3.2 mount changes

60% ground mount / apprentice riding
- available at level 20
- 4g for training, 1g for mount

100% ground mount / journeyman riding
- available at level 40
- 50g for training, 10g for mount

150% flying mount / expert riding
- available at level 60
- 600g for training (faction discounts apply), 50g for mount
- flying mount on land = 60% speed, but land mounts remain their 100% speed

280% flying mount / artisan riding
- available at level 70
- 5000g for training (faction discounts apply), 100g for mount
- flying mount on ground = 100% speed

Cold Weather Flying remains the same - 1000g / level 77

this makes 60-70 a lot faster/easier...
